Share your thoughts and feelings with someone at school. Perhaps your form teacher, your head of year or your favourite teacher.
A problem shared is a problem halved.
Try to be clear about how you are feeling and why.
Use words such as “I am really scared” or “I am struggling”
Be honest – keeping problems inside doesn’t mean they will go away.
Remind yourself that you have successfully attended school before, and you can do it again.
This feeling is only temporary.
Remind yourself of your future plans – college, university, job and why it is worth attending school.
Go out. Don’t get into the habit of being in your safe space. It could become your prison.
Get some fresh air even if it’s just going to the shops, walking the dog or visiting a relative – even if it’s for a short amount of time.
Talk to your friends – they may not know how you feel, but could help you if they understood
Talk to your parents/ carers. They may be able to explain to school better than you if you are upset.
Try to break any negative thinking habits by doing something you like e.g. listen to music or phone a friend
Talk to someone you trust, this could be a parent, teacher, teaching assistant, mentor or any other trusted adult. Tell them what’s happening and how it is making you feel. If you don’t feel like you can do that, you could talk to friends or call an organisation like Childline on 0800 11 11 or visit childline.org.uk. If you are being targeted online, report it using the “report abuse” button on the app or website.
